Yes, yes, yes, we live in extraordinary times and Covid has been shockingly horrible for many, particularly for those who have been wickedly ill, or for those who haven’t been able to bury their loved ones. However, Covid may try, but Covid will fail, to kill off the spirit of enterprise.
The human Covid-vaccine
Since launching That Great Business Show dot com www.ThatGreatBusinessShow.com podcast my co-host Jamie Heaslip and I have featured incredible business who just say ‘no’ to Covid. An events business organiser, Toni Wall, becomes an undertaker, a ‘shut-down’ wine merchant, Lynda Coogan, turns online wine tutor…
What's a Misfit?
There’s a common thread running through all of these stories. It’s something I have previously referred to as ‘Misfits’. The majority of those in business are misfits elsewhere, and weren’t meant to do anything else (yes, of course, there are some misfit misfits!). No matter what life throws at them, they’ll keep going, like Miena Rust, nougat maker to Harrods, who has been literally through the health wars but keeps coming back for more. Why? She told our podcast that her work makes her happy, keeping the doors open even during chemotherapy and radiotherapy, gave her a sense of purpose. She couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather do.
How to get TeamGBS behind you
That’s why the team behind That Great Business Show love what we do. We help these incredible people tell their stories – all of them with plans of world domination. Whether they get there or not is not the issue. What is at stake is that they wouldn’t have it any other way. Without sounding too grand about it, I sense that they have a sense that it’s their destiny. It’s something they just have to do.
I love the Misfits. I love the way our listeners, TeamGBS, come right behind them and support the companies and their founders that we feature. We’re all in this together, 250,000 small, diverse, businesses across the island of Ireland. All struggling for survival, but all with the dream that their day will come.
